Mile 26

A flicker of hope.

My phone chimed, oh it’s messenger — Grace Colette: You’re near us do you have a chance to visit? Here’s our address…

I turned to Meg to let her know, Jill was still with us so we checked with her also. We all nodded, we have to!

We program the GPS, 15 minutes away. In typical fashion Meg asked me, “what do you know about Grace?” And in my typical response on this trip, nothing.

Juan! Meg exclaimed, don’t you ask questions and get to know these people, before we barge into their home?

Well…

I don’t blame her, I always do this, but anyway back to Grace. She informed us that she has plenty of space to park the RV. So we pulled in and after unloading me, Grace met us by the RV. After our hello’s we walked into her home, OMG, what a gorgeous home! Oh the view from the back was out of a postcard, a pond surrounded by autumn foliage, breathtaking!

Grace introduced us to her husband Dave, who has ALS, diagnosed this year. Dave wasn’t sure about meeting us, you see Grace is the extrovert. Much like Meg and I, and just like Meg, Grace didn’t give Dave a choice, lol.

Grace and Meg have one other thing in common, they both drive motorhomes. Meg because I can’t, Grace drives because it was her choice to RV and not Dave’s, as he puts it, as he grins, lol . You go Grace!

Dave graciously agreed to an interview so please watch it below.

We had a great visit and as we prepared to leave Grace offered Meg a box of candles she makes. Her request, “give them to others with ALS as you travel.” And Meg graciously accepted this charge!

So now as we pass them out, we will label them “A Flicker of Grace & Hope Candle “.

Thank you for blessing us with your life and new friendship.
