In the company of Superman…

At the end of August, Meg and I attended the Paralyzed Veterans of America Health Summit. We met some incredible people, who we now consider family. Regina Blye, Kim Beer and John Davis. Regina and Kim are with the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation: https://www.christopherreeve.org/
When we shared about our trip they were intrigued. Especially with what we hope to accomplish; awareness about ALS. They quickly learned of Meg being my caregiver and what she does for me. Given that we would be in DC during their Summit, they asked if we would participate on a panel about caregiving. Our first thought was “ I don’t have a spinal cord injury”. We quickly realized that doesn’t matter, caregiving of a paralyzed person regardless of the reason…is the same.
After a few emails Meg worked out the details with Regina and we were set. The 13th of October 10am; it was raining and a bit chilly but we caught a bus to the metro and walked to the venue in DC.
Getting off the elevator the first thing that greets us is a banner of Christopher Reeve, my generations Superman! We received our welcome packets and took care of the most pressing matter…coffee!
We mingled and prepared, after our session we did more networking. Everyone we shared our adventures with were in awe of Meg’s ability to drive Big Blue. We were humbled by the warmth and love we received from everyone. Meg and I are looking forward to collaborating with this amazing organization.
It was so inspirational to meet so many individuals dedicated to helping so many.

Side note: At the White Coat Affair for ALS TDI we actually met Christopher Reeve’s brother, Kevin and his lovely wife. Talk about happenstance!

Blessed life! Just saying…
